Find a flat area near your spawn, or flatten the area if you can’t find anything good. Once you have all the required materials, you can start to build a house. If you have enough, you will be able to craft bars which will be useful to craft an anvil, and a better sword or some pieces of armor. If you are lucky enough to find ores near your spawn, you can mine them with your Copper Pickaxe. You need 20 Stone Blocks and 3 Torches to get 1 Furnace. The Furnace is important because it will allow you to melt your ores to get bars. It will give you Stone Blocks, which are useful for crafting a Furnace. You have a pickaxe, so you can also mine stone. With 1 Gel and 1 Wood, you can craft 3 Torches. You won’t need a lot for your starter house, but if you can get more than 1 Gel it’s nice because you will need it anyway for exploring your world or to craft a Furnace. If you meet slimes, you can try to kill them and drop some Gel. You can collect approximately 150 Woods, it’s never too much as Wood is useful for many other things than just building a starter house. This will allow you to get Wood, which is the main material you will use to build your starter house. That’s all you need to build your first house. Hopefully, you start the game with a sword, a pickaxe, and an axe. So, when beginning a new game, you want to quickly find materials and build a little rudimentary house. In the very early game, as a beginner, your objective will be to survive. If you click on an NPC’s head, you can assign him to another house. For example, in the screenshot above there is the guide. In the housing menu, you also see the NPCs living in houses. It will display whether your house is valid or if there are things to change to make the house considered valid. Just click the question mark and click in your house. To know whether a house is valid or not, you can use the question mark icon in the housing menu. Walls: there must be walls in the background of a house for it to be considered valid.Corruption/Crimson: a house should not be too close to Corruption Biome or Crimson Biome.Furniture requirements: a house should contain at least a light source (torches, candles, …), a flat surface (tables, bookcases, dressers, …), a comfort item (chairs, beds, benches, …), and an entry item (doors, platforms, trap doors, …).The standard minimum size usually is 7 tiles wide × 5 tiles high in Terraria. Size requirements: a house should have a minimum size of 60 tiles. There are some requirements for a structure to be considered a house: Here are some tiles not Included in the Home Tile Score computation:įinally, if you receive a score of 0 or lower, your Home Tile is Invalid, while a score of 0 or higher means it’s valid. In Terraria, a house is a structure built by the player containing various things such as rooms for NPCs to live, crafting stations, chests, etc… Lastly, if you assign a second NPC to an occupied house, their distance must be less than three tiles away from the home tile of the existing NPC to get a score of 1. You’ll also deduct -30 points per regular chest, including Locked Chests, except for Trap Chests per tile that it occupies within the surrounding area of a valid home tile. If you get a score below 0, the tile will be invalid, and you can’t move on to the next part of the Home Tile Score computation.įor the second part of the calculation, subtract -15 points for each solid tile around the valid Home Tile. You can proceed to the second calculation if you score over 0. Then, add +5 points for each unactuated tile. There are two parts to calculating your Home Tile Score for the first one, you’re going to subtract -5 points per tile occupied by objects, subtract -20 points for each tile occupied by a closed Tall gate or door, and subtract -20 points for each tile occupied by an Open Tall Gate and hinge of an Open Door. Moreover, this rectangular area is neither a Platform nor a bubble, allowing characters to pass freely. Lastly, if you get 300 points, your house is Not Valid for Housing.Ĭheck out the table below for the tiles within the area and their effect on the Evil score: Tilesįor a house to be valid in Terraria, there must be at least one Home Tile where the NPC can stand. However, if you get +50 points, it’s considered Invalid and a status message will pop up that it’s Corrupted. After that, if you get -50 points, your house will be Valid for Housing. To calculate the Evil Score, you must add up your Corruption and Crimson Tile Score, then subtract them from the Hallowed Tile and Sunflower scores. This is because NPCs in Terraria can’t live in Corrupted or Crimsoned Areas. Before building a house, remember not to place it inside or near an evil biome because it’ll increase your Evil score and render it invalid.
